Did you know that Anjuna shot to world fame in the late sixties because of Full Moon Night beach parties and Flea Market at Danddo? These activities were hosted by locals in coordination with foreigners/hippies. While Full Moon Night beach parties are quire rare these days, Flea Market continues to take place at Danddo on Wednesdays. People start arriving in Anjuna for the market as early as 06:00 a.m. and leave the place by late evening. The traffic on Anjuna roads on Wednesdays is simply unimaginable; we now need better/broader roads to accommodate such type of heavy traffic. Getting back to the market, there is a big difference between previously held Flea Market and the one today. Previously, the departing foreigners disposed of their foreign made belongings; nowadays, the market is filled with LOMANNIS and one mostly finds stuff from Rajasthan, Kashmir, Nepal, etc., instead of foreign made. To make matters worse, these Lomanni vendors are now photographed and presented on magazines as locals (Anjunians?!

Anjuna Flea Market was so famous in those days that once when my brother and I visited the Opera House area (famous for car spare parts) in Bombay in 1976, we were stunned to find second hand, foreign made goods from Anjuna Flea Market on sale at two shops. When asked how they managed to get them, the owner told us that he often attended the Flea Market. He further told us that their staff in New Delhi branches also visited the market from time to time.

P.S. Per public suggestion, I have changed the subject from Did you know that . to Believe it or not!
