Goan World News --------------------------- Goan Association of New York 00000000000000000000000000 2004 Managing Committee We are pleased to announce the 2004 Managing Committee. President Mario DeCorla-Souza V. President Dr. Mickey D'Costa Secretary Sharon DeCorla-Souza Treasurer Vasant Baliga Ex-Officio Cajetan Vaz Ex-Officio Maria Fernandes Ex-Officio Joe D'Silva The term of the 2004 Managing Committee is from January 01to December 31, 2004. Our best wishes for success goes out to the entire team. And a big thank you to Xavier & Marie Bella D'Souza, Maria DeCorla-Souza and Maria Fernandes, for the fine manner in which they conducted our elections. A round of applause also goes out to all of you who came and cast your votes. Thanks to all of you, a proper and Constitutional process has taken root. The transition meeting will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2003. Mass Messages Fr. Basilio Monteiro, Fr. Nelson Couto and Fr. Albert Castellino, concelebrated our Feast Mass in honor of St. Francis Xavier. In his homily, Fr. Basilio highlighed how Goans are a part of the universal, yet we have a unique and differentiated culture. He added that Christian Love was a factor of great significance. And by rising above pettiness, the intrinsic goodness in us surfaces. In response to Fr. Basilio's 'jabbardasti', Fr. Nelson, dimensionalized his thoughts on Goans as a noble people. As promised, Fr. Albert's address was as brief as King Henry VIII's marriage to Anne Boleyn. Fr. Albert stressed the importance for us to have a picture of the True God, at all times. Picture launches a New tradition When Uncle Simplicio Couto, donated a framed picture of St. Francis Xavier, little did he realize that this small act of generosity would usher in a New tradition. This picture will reside in the home of whoever is the President of our Association. It's presence at all Managing Committe meetings will be mandatory, regardless of where the meeting is held. The picture will be passed on to the next President, immediately after the Elections. As always, all Managing Committee meetings will begin with a spontaneous prayer. We will soon announce the institution of a Spiritual Director for our Association. True Measures of Success We tend to evaluate our events by asking ourselves: How many people attended the function? Was the decor cool? How was the DJ and the music? How many dishes were served and was the food delicious? Were there good prizes and did they organize the games well? All relevant questions that are indicative of the quality of an event. Quality may be a necessary condition, but is it sufficient?. We would consider an event to be a true success, if we moved the scales on the following measures: Did the event promote fellowship? Was it executed in a spirit of service? Fellowship, Service and Quality are our core values. By these measures, was Goinchem Saibache Fest a success?. By popular demand In response to your requests, we will shortly be sending you a transcript of Ralph D'Souza's luncheon address, delivered at Goinchem Saibache Fest . Organisational Matters We will soon be sending members only, the following: Annual Report for 2003, Accounts of the Feast and 2003 Financial Report. Effective 2004, it is our intent to restrict all our communication to members only. We trust you will understand our position on the issue. Merry X'mas to all our families and best wishes for a Happy 2004 ! 2003 Managing Committee Goan Association of New York 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
