An initiative from Goa: >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Dec 21 01:14:21 2003 Kasturbha Gandhi trust was started in 1945, soon after the death of kasturbha Gandhi in 1944,with a view to improve the lot of underprivileged women and children. A branch of the trust was started in goa in 1991, there are some groups working and providing eatables, and courses for nursing is also provided to girls. Almost every year we are having some competition on 2nd October for collage students on ideals of gandhiji. This year also we are having an essay competition on kadhi style and pride, in the month of December, for which prizes would be distributed. To further the aim and objective of the trust, a project was initiated to provide food, shelter and education for the street children, who where deprived of these facilities. HAMARA SCHOOL is a name chosen by the children themselves started with the initiative of our volunteers. The government of goa gave us 4 rooms in an old medical college complex where about 15 -20 children are given a facility of bath, meal and education. The school is open from 9 am - 4 pm. Within 12 months a mass improvement was seen in the children from restlessness and mistrust, to gentle, disciplined and focused. We have another project in Cancona, which is in the process, in which work will be provided to underprivileged ladies, and the articles made by them would be sold by kasturbha Gandhi trust. Now with the fast moving age, kadhi is fading out, so to uplift kadhi in modern elegant style Wendell Rodricks who is a renowned and established, of international acclaim has been kind enough to help us, in lending helping hand write from the word go. The aim of the trust was to always glamorize kadhi and to make it a fashion statement. This has been possible with three fashion shows organized by him. Trust has been able to achieve its other objectives of raising fund for their activities. It was plain luck, and gods grace that the trust did not have to pay any expenses towards the services of such an acclaimed designer. This whole process of adding value to khadhi started in with the unconditional support of Wendell Rodrick. ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
