Congrats to engineer of Goan origin, Anthony Remedios <aremedios at rediffmail.com> for being selected by the Gujarat Ambuja Cement Company (13 million tonnes per year) for their Life Time Achievement Award for "striving to improve the quality of concrete" in India. Remedios was earlier in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe, and was known in Goa for his stand in boldly speaking out against his clients Konkan Railway, when he felt things were going wrong in its construction. -FN He's from Divar -- Malar, St Mathias -- and recently commented about Goan socials: "I enjoy this function as they do not have the usual tables system for functions and weddings, where each group dance mainly with the persons at their table. At the Divar Social, the chairs are spread all round the hall in two or three circles, and anyone can ask anyone for the next dance, as in the olden days in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe)." I happened to accidentally run into him during an expat conference held at the Kala Academy a year or two ago.
