Under the extension services, the Community College Cell of St. Xavier’s College announces two short term courses on “Cultivation of Orchids and Anthuriums” and “Ecotourism”.

Anthuriums and Orchids have a very good market potential in Goa. Both these flowers have a longer table life and have an outstanding exotic appearance. The table life of these flowers is 15-20 days. They remain fresh on the plant for not less than a month.
As Orchids and Anthuriums are commercially viable and require easier daily handling, makes it an ideal choice as a career opportunity or a profitable hobby in Goa. In addition, the Goan climate is highly suitable for these plants.
Goa has a rich bounty of nature witnessed in diverse landscapes and ecosystems – from the Arabian Sea to the Western Ghats with rich biodiversity. Large number of tourists are attracted to Goa due to the sandy beaches, clean air, thick vegetation cover, tranquil atmosphere, fauna and hospitality.
The ecotourism course is mainly for tourist guides and others who are interested. A large number of tourists are interested in ecotourism. With the International Film Festival in the offing, many visitors would require the help of specialized guides. The course will also include field trips. The sessions will be conducted on Saturdays from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at St. Xavier’s College. Besides the work skills, the course will also involve like coping skills, such as communication skills, personality development, etc.
