Monday, 12th January, 2004 AN EFFECTIVE OPTION FOR PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS.
The Goa Su-Raj Party called for the formation of an "EFFECTIVE FRONT' against the obscurantist, fascist and communal forces raising their vituperative head in the peace loving State of Goa. Sovereignty of the Nation rests in each and every citizen of India ---- irrespective of race, caste, creed, colour or religion, and each citizen is a spark contributing to the holy fire of Sovereignty which burns down enemies seeking to divide the country on the basis of religion and race superiority. Equal respect for all religions, races, regions, castes and languages constitute and reflect the spirit of secularism as reflected in the Constitution of our great Nation. The very survival of our Nation in the future rests on an unconditional acceptance of this unifying spindle around which are woven the threads of our diverse cultural and national heritage. The Goa Su-Raj Party called for a coalescing of truly secular forces in Goa and to achieve the same has pleaded with all secular thinking Political Parties to sink their grudges and differences so as to come together to provide a synergistically EFFECTIVE OPTION to the citizens of Goa. Specifically, the Goa Su-Raj Party called upon the Congress, the Nationalist Congress, the Communist Party of India, the United Goans Democratic Party and the Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party to come together on a common platform and unitedly put up common candidates for the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections. It has suggested the name of Mr. Pratapsing Raoji Rane for the North Goa Parliamentary seat and Dr. Wilfred D'Souza for the South Goa Parliamentary seat, both being former Chief Ministers of Goa. The President of the Goa Su-Raj Party Mr. Floriano Lobo said that these candidates would truly be able to project the composite culture of Goa and as experienced senior Goan leaders, they deserve to be provided with the privilege to truly and genuinely represent Goa in the National Parliament. Gerald Fernandes, the Spokesperson of the Goa Su-Raj Party added that Goa is at the cross-roads and the forthcoming Parliamentary elections would present an opportunity to the electorate in Goa to unambiguously give their verdict should the above EFFECTIVE OPT ION be made available to the Voters by the secular Parties.
