Just a brief note to thank Oliver for his post re Fr. Faleiro and further for
providing me with his contact details. My mother attempted to contact Fr on
Sunday but was informed that he was heavily sedated and was in a critical
condition with things not looking good at all. It was the saddest news. My heart
goes out to Fr. Faleiro's family at this time. We knew him well from the days
when we were in Karachi. I must admit I personally don't remember him from those
times but I finally put a face to the name when a few years ago he visited
Australia and spent time with us. He was enthusiastic, eager, always on the
move, energetic and full of life. He couldn't stay still for a moment and was
always up for getting out and seeing new places whether it was the tourist
parks, cuddling koalas, petting kangaroos or up the mountains to take in the
scenic beauty of it all. He said mass at our place and visited my grandmother in
a nursing home as well. A few days later my grandmother passed away. When Fr.
Faleiro rang us when he returned to Canada he was shocked to learn about my
grandmother's demise and was indeed grateful for the opportunity to see her. My
grandmother adored him and would always talk about him but it was not until he
visited us here that I got to know him and vice versa. He would ring us
occasionally and chat and of course we'd always receive cards and letters from
him. Having read the post this morning that he had passed away, though fully
expected, it is still hard to comprehend. It brings back fond memories and a
tear to the eye. I guess we should be thankful for the many blessings he
bestowed upon us all and look up and pray to him now that he has been joined
with our creator. May his soul rest in peace. chris
