Although he came from a midieval culture with thoughts that Christianity alone brings salvation he did great harm to goa's history. he saw to it that our temples were destroyred and that we could not practise our Hindu faith. Salvation is not up to ANY god but to oneself and how one lives their lives if at all there is a 'salvation' He did help the so called lower caste Hindus but of course only upon their conversion to a foreign faith . With no recourse left most of my Hindu ancestors had to leave Goa or give up their faith for a foreign faith and eat beef irreversibly breaking their return to their parent faith and tradition . Christianity has gone through its development to emerge as one of the most tolerant religions today .. but whenever there is a christian community they have this un ending itch to prostelyse which sours the whole ball game. i hope that one day i learn to forgive Xavier for destroying the world of my forefathers just as Christ has instructed us to do.
