GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS 14 January 2004 "DARE TO DREAM": 'Dream", he said. For "dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result into action. Grow to become a leader". Those were the words of encouragement showered by President APJ Abdul Kalam on the special students of Sanjay School, Porvorim, on Jan 13. Independent India has only one such case where the people were actually asked to decide on their own future. There have been other contentious issues awaiting to be thrashed out; but in no case was an Opinion Poll resorted to. The second event was the 1979 bus-fare agitation, which saw an assertive student community of Goa wrest for themselves a significant 50 per cent concession while traveling in public buses. Today's Goa suffers from an acute lack of a sense of history. We have forgotten the past, or rather, chose to re-interpret it according to our biases. Sometimes we just ignore it. This makes us very prone to repeating our own mistakes. (Edit in Herald) JAN 1967.AND TODAY: Today Goans need to protect the State's identity, language and uniqueness. We kept Goa separate, have our own government, but feel we're being pushed to the corner. If we are not careful, Goa could lose its identity; then we would have a fate worse than merger.
