Response to a profound question: Just to be the devil's advocate - an attorney or an accountant. Liquor that is sold from "auntie's kitchen" may be considered 'illicit' because: 1. One is never certain of the quality of its production 2. One is never certain of the quality of the drink if it comes to the 'nectar standards' laid by Khoro Niz Feni drinking Goenkars. 3. The liquor if sold/bought under the table with no taxes being paid even if this is genuine cent per cent feni. 4. The buyer/seller is making an illicit sale to the consumer with no license to trade in alcohol.
Now if this 'stuff' is shared among friends, at no charge, this could be considered sharing a product of one's creative art or hobby. Then if it is truly Feni, it could be called 'nectar of the Gods' shared by Goan connoisseurs. :=)) Regards, Gilbert From: Margaret Mascarenhas "The balcao with built-in seats at the entrance is de rigueur. This is where the action is - socialising, exchange of village gossip, proselytizing on politics, often accompanied by a glass of feni or urrack, Goa's version of bootleg." Cecil Pinto's response: To my knowledge 'bootleg' refers to liquor that is illicitly produced, distributed, or sold. I might be wrong. Can some linguistic expert clarify if feni, or urrack, can rightly be termed as "Goa's version of bootleg". Isn't 'nectar of the Gods' a more correct description? Yahoo!
