I think that mortals (average) need, have always needed, higher beings for salutary emulation. It helps if the exemplary person is one that we can identify with.
The frenetic hurry manifested is hardly their (the saints') fault or desire.
Apropos saints, I recall when GBS, one of the greatest atheists and independent minds of our times, famously exclaimed upon learning of the assassination of Gandhi (the Mahatma): When will this world be safe for saints to live in?

I am puzzled by the recent frenetic rush for saints in the posts. Do we need
any and what for? Perhaps this is a cat among the pigeons but it might help
reorient the endless discussion that hasn't moved on for a while.
