Colleagues,
It is becoming a bit difficult to be clear about who said what in an
increasingly convoluted set of posts. However, I am at a total loss to
understand how anyone could possibly arrive at a view that I was seeking
censorship on the issue of saints. Indeed I am not, don't say so, and have
never believed in censorship. In my related posts on the theme in question,
all I wanted was a broadening of the theme or leaving it aside for a while
as it seemed to have got into a rut, and was going nowhere while there were
so many other issues which could be discussed as others have suggested. As
an aside and as a challenge, I was hoping there would be some informed
take on "do we need saints and what for?". I therefore would dearly welcome
some knowledgeable comment on this aspect of my question at least, and on
the specific concept of sainthood as distinguishable from saints.

The clich that there is always a button to switch off discussion, is now
worn incredibly thin and become vacuous. Surely, on Goanet, we are all
capable of a much better approach, through more persuasive, sophisticated,
informed, in-depth discussion than the lightweight populist notion of
censorship which gets thrown in from time to time.
Cornel
