Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event to be held on 30th January will feature the topic Contextualising Gandhi in Goan society.
The discussion to be held on ' Peace Day' will be led by Mr. Kalanand Mani, Secretary of Peaceful Society.
Mr. Mani has been associated with 'peoples movements' since the early 1970's, both nationally and locally. Peaceful Society in Kundaim has been the catalyst for numerous initiatives in rural development, the fight against eviction of people in Cotigao, environmental campaigns like that for the protection of the Western Ghats and against Nylon 66. Presently Kalanand Mani heads a Gandhanian forum at the national level called 'Swaraj' .
In his presentation Kalanand Mani will speak on the current unsustainable method of development observable in the State, which is threatening its natural resources and cultural identity.
He will share the vision of Development as envisaged by Mahatma Gandhi as an alternative, that can restore Goa to the 'Bhangrachem Goem' it once was.
Those citizens wanting to contribute to the discussion at Friday Balcao are urged to attend the event while those who cannot attend the event may send their views and action plan suggestions by post to FRIDAY BALCAO Post Box 78, Mapusa 403 507 or by email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Friday Balcao will be from 4pm to 6pm at the Goa Desc Resource Centre No.11 Liberty Apartments Feira Alta, Mapusa and is open to members of the public.
Those citizens who would like to receive the regular invitation to Friday Balcao for 2004 and a one page synopsis of the fortnightly session can subscribe for the same by sending Rs.80/- to cover printing and mailing costs.
