Police sources said the victim was threatened at knife point and taken to the hills. She was later allegedly drugged and held hostage for nearly fifteen hours, before being gang-raped.
The three accused were aged between 25 and 30 years and appear to be migrants going by the version of the victim, police said.
Put up at Arambol, the victim had reportedly come to attend a late-night party on Saturday at Anjuna, famous world-wide for its rave parties. She was walking along the beach from Anjuna to Vagator around 8 am on Sunday, when the youths accosted her. At knife-point, they took her to a nearby hill and raped her late in the night, a senior officer closely connected with the investigations told Herald.
She had been offered some soft-drinks and an omlette allegedly laced with drugs, the officer said.She somehow managed to free herself from the clutches of the accused little before midnight, and later lodged her first information report at the Anjuna police station.
The case was booked late on Monday evening.Senior police officers, Deputy Inspector General, Muktesh Chander, and Superintendent of Police (North Goa) D P Verma and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Allen D'Sa rushed to Anjuna and were closely monitoring and supervising the investigations.
The incident has been reported to Swedish embassy officials who are yet to fly down to assist the victim, police sources said.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer told Herald that they have managed to identify with the help of the victim, one of the three rapists.
"From the description provided to us by her, all three appear to be migrants,"
the senior police officer said. She has pin-pointed one of the many photographs
of suspects that we've shown her from the records of the migrant population
we maintain, he added.
