These beaches offer sites and a delightful places for those seeking a peaceful and lazy holidays. However, most villagers have expressed their displeasure towards the authorities who have not taken their demands seriously.
Visitors as well as villagers are of the opinion that the government should preserve the scenic greenery of the coastal belt of these areas by providing proper infrastructural facilities which would enable number of tourists to visit these beaches.
They have suggested that the concerned authorities should appoint a life guard at these beaches, proper accommodation, dust bins and an immediate embankment adjacent to the Morjim beach, which will prevent salt water from flowing into the nearby fields.
They have also expressed their indignation against panchayat authorities giving NOC to the illegal constructions which are mushrooming along the coastal belt of these areas, by flouting all rules and regulations.
Due to these activities, greenery is giving way to concrete jungle. Hills are being flattened and cultivable land is being destroyed. This may affect the tourists arrivals here.
When contacted, the sarpanch of Harmal gram panchayat Daniel Fernandes, claimed that he neither issued NOC to illegal constructions nor provided licenses to set up shacks along the coastal belt Arambol. ------------------------------------- HERALD 29/1/04 page 3 ------------------------------------
