Santosh: I don't understand what you are trying to say. All I know is that there was an inquisition in Goa. It was conducted in the name of the Catholic Church and its religion. It is part of Goa's history, and we have to recognize that fact. We don't have to be grateful to anybody for bringing us the inquisition.
Gilbert responds: I love your honesty! You know the word Inquisition and beyond that you DON'T KNOW (the facts) and DON'T CARE about the realities or the terminology. If you are going to make an opinion at least try to understand the issues. Like many you are just recycling the same old stuff. The inquisition for Heresy and Blasphemy was done by the Catholic Church and we Catholics do recognize them. But instead of making the statements, can you through your research place on the web one of more specific examples of inquisition IN GOA for heresies and Blasphemy. Or is it going to be generalities and the sodancehm rengetengten. :=)) Your example of the dotor could not hold water for the usual ani sodanchem 'Heresy and Blasphemy'. :=)) You like many Goans who opine on this period appear to want it both ways - unrestricted immigration and don't displace the local population. You may be a prefect candidate for a democratically elected governor of Goa in 1560. :=)) I am sure you know, but for others, I am looking for the Goan artist or sculpture in 1500-1800 that followed the Florentine artists and worked on Goa's version of (nude) Venus or David. :=)) Now that along with associated abhorrent and aberrant morals and sexual practices are examples of 'Heresy and Blasphemy'! So do you think native Goans of the 1530-1800 were into Heresy and Blasphemy? These are your and mine great grand.... grand..... grand.... forebears. Do you think they were even close to Heresy and Blasphemy for which the Inquisition was so famous? At least we can agree on this: That it is very, very unlikely - not even in their wildest dreams. The reasons why this is unlikely is because Portuguese Goa of this period was a rural-agrarian-fishing society (Old Goa was the only city) that was steep into extended and joint-family living where everyone grew and behaved under the watchful eyes of some grand-parent or one or more aunts.:=)) The inquisition was at home. :=)) I am using this word Inquisition since we Goans are using it for everything else OR perhaps we are using a word we may not know the true meaning..:=)) As I read the web pages of the INQUISITION IN GOA by Goans and others, I could as well be reading the reports on the inquisition in Europe. There is little specifics of names of villages in Goa, time, date, name of the native Goan victim(s), age, sex, ethnic background, etc.. All that I read is a repeat of what occurred and has been published in Europe.
