As scheduled, Kuwait Goan Tiatristanchi Sonvstha initiated by Marcus Vaz as announced on the stage, organized their maiden show TIATRO ANI TIATRIST at Gulf English School, Rumethiya, Kuwait on Friday 20th of this month. Though the show was scheduled to begin at 3.30, it finally started at 4.10. The show was attended by the capacity crowd though the hall was small compared to IAC. To my knowledge first time in the history of Kuwait Tiatro KD 10/- per ticket was charged for the first class and inspite of this no reservation allotted. The show was organized in association with Goan Welfare Society and the proceeds of this show KD 600/- + as announced by the organizers will be distributed into 4 parts and sent to 4 ageing tiatrists namely 1: Prem Kumar. 2: Mary Vaz. 3: Paul Romy and 4: John Nazareth. 22 musicians like an orchestra - provided the musical score for this show. Due to these many musical instruments the clarity of the singers drowned thereby denying the audience the exact meaning of the words. Konkani tiatro system is such that audience needs to grasp the words clearly. Secondly the mike system was not up to mark. At an outset Jose Rod the author of the revengeful phenomenon first time introduced in this part of the world To Aslear Aum Nachona welcomed the audience and praised the old artistes who have done yeomen services for the cause of Tiatro. Yes, is Jose Rod worthy of praising those oldies who were immaculate in their character as against his own who is on record to destroy his colleague by using the above phenomenon? This point has to be understood very well by the lovers of tiatros and if necessary deliberated for the good of tiatro and tiatrist. The stage set up was not up to the mark as it should be. In future the organizers should take note of this. It is very nice to help the old needy tiatrists but it would have been still better if GWS also had to come forward and help on their own not only the needy tiatrists but many of the needy Goans as well. GWS is having in its kitty around KD 30 thousand (approx. Rs. 50 lakhs) collected from the people patronage. After all GWS came into being as welfare association to look after the welfare of the people who need help. It is absolutely right to use public funds collected thru the assistance of public for the cause of public benefit, especially those who are in dire need, namely some of the poverty stricken tiatrists and promoters of Goan causes. In Kuwait many of our people need lot of financial assistance and if our associations decide to take up this issue seriously I am sure none of the Goans suffering from financial or any other deficiencies will face problem. Like Parsis, we are a community with a special gift to care for the community cause, this is the tradition of Goans and it has to be maintained. KGTS must go on doing what they are doing now in helping their needy colleagues as they did now by disbursing the profits immediately to the needy.
The musical show consisted of small skits and songs. Amongst the Skits the last one enacted by Mario Philip Domnick was excellent deserving mention while the rest were not up to the mark. Amongst the songs, which deserve mention, were both the solos of Remie J. Colaco, one on Goa showing his concern for the ills happening in Goa and the other on Avoibapaiche Koixtt which he earlier rendered somewhere in late 1969/1970. I still remember this song, which was recorded then while he was singing it in Goa. Many of the young boys of my age then sang it for many of the local village based functions. I am sure it will have the required effect because many of our Kuwaitkars are neglecting and maltreating their parents and finally dumping them as dead stock in Old Age House when it was not necessary. Both the trios of trio kings Joaquim-Jr.Rod-Anthony were good. Joaquims delivery was beautiful and he has a very attractive voice. I understand he is the brother of veteran artiste Josephine from Colva. The first trio highlighted the ill effects of BJP and communalization of Goan life by Parrikar and the other on the death of Dr. Rosario Rodrigues. The second trio though rather late yet audience liked it. Peter - Roshan duets were liked by the audience and Roshans solo Yo Re Moga, Mojea Raja had a filmi touch in it. Her dress code, acting and singing created total romantic outlook and this solo really looked like the solo in the musical show. Her attractive looks and charming personality gave an added booster for this solo. Comedian Domnick rendered his solos in his usual style but lacked solid punch. The duo of Christopher and Laurent remembering some of the dead tiatrists was well sung. Joe Rose solos and his trio with Peter-Roshan rendered well. Joe Rose after a long gap showed that he is still one of the best singers and composers. Comedian Philips solo as a pregnant woman looked rather vulgar and even some of his words carry vulgarity. He should try to change himself for the better. The trio of Cajy-Marcus-Mario on Gods power was well worded. In this trio they said the power of man compared to God is nothing. If they really know this then why did they support the discrimination in their circle against their own colleague?
Before the start of the show, Derek Mendes one of the sons of the late Anthony Mendes inaugurated the photographic display of some of the dead artistes.
During the show some unusual items were shown on the display screen, one of them was Konkani dubbing on Hindi Movie about 10 minutes under the title Kuwait Sopur Ground Soccer which was very interesting. The other were interviews conducted in Goa of veteran Master Vaz and now ailing Rom Tony, & M. Boyer.
