Extracts from Frederich Noronha's article Remo rage against bankrupt Bharat
>Remo said in an interview published in Panaji: "This >whole country, which was once the cradle of deep, >high-thinking philosophy and art and literature, >seems to have gone intellectually bankrupt, and >Bollywood seems to be the beginning and end of life >as we know it." Remo reminds me of a story `The Four Fortune Seekers' by Sudhir M Ghosh. The four scholars feel let down by the villagers because they refuse to patronise them. They leave the village and go in search of their fortune. But they end up tasting both fire and cold. In declaring the whole country intellectually bankrupt purely on the people's response to his music Remo only goes to prove that his world begins and ends with music. And ask any intellectual in Goa or in the rest of the country and they will tell without a second thought that what he has been dishing out in the name of music is nothing but unmitigated and undiluted rubbish. I would certainly be not in a position to judge the intellectual dept of the people in India, but I could safely say without being too off the mark that Remo is only a moron who got lucky. ----------- >"That'll be my way of saying 'Feed donkeys with >grass, not asparagus'. And I'll probably write that >caption on the inside cover of the album," >Remo added. But Remo rued the lack of appreciation >for serious artistic work in India. Well at least Remo should thank his stars and the undiscerning donkeys who put him on the high pedestal he is today. Never mind from a high everything below looks small. ---- >"Shobhaa De sells more than Arundhati Roy; David >Dhawan's blockbusters >are more watched than Satyajit Ray's masterpieces," >he said. Remo seems to forget that it is the people who patronise Shobhe De and David Dhavan that have patronised him. People who can appreciate the masterpieces of Satyajit Ray will not tolerate even for a few seconds any rubbish -- even if it goes labelled as Remo's music. ------ Remo is an old hat. Rather than worrying himself on the intellect of the Indians he would do well to check his frustration and his `music'. And perhaps do some yoga. On his foreign tours I would advise him to wear a crash helmet just incase the donkeys there refuse to take asparagus and get aggressive. Tony Martin __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
