Subject: Re: [Goanet] Properly to understand ....David Goldstein Tariq Siddiqui: I wonder why you did not post the link to the article from where you extracted the quotes. Anyway, for those curious enough the link is: http://www.trosch.org/for/inquisition.html The site provides a description of the author as being "of Jewish extraction, having converted to Catholicism; in 1955 he was named a "Knight of St. Gregory" for his apologetic works by Pope Pius XII." The site is nothing more than an effort to prove that the Inquisition was like the Holocaust - it never happened. The rest of the article is not worth commenting on.
Gilbert Responds: In fact you and a few others did not think I did any reading at all on Goa's Inquisition. :=)). Sorry I reproduced stuff that burst your bubble. But you are right my reading on the Inquisition in Goa is limited. This is because there is so little factual / statistical information on the 250 years of that Goan history. I am glad you read David Goldstein's article and have posted the link. Thus you cannot accuse me of making the whole post up - like you have done so often in the past. The article has quoted facts with plenty of Jewish references. As usual, you misrepresent the facts. Then you 'shoot your mouth-off' with your opinions on a subject where you-yourself have stated you know little about- or let's say - very selected knowledge. You wanted references about the Catholic vs. Muslim-Jewish friction and the Portuguese and Spanish inquisition. Now you have it. :=)) Now if you are smart, take the historical and other facts stated in Goldstein's article about the Portuguese/Spanish and their colonization by the Muslims and the aftermath. Place before us your research or your references. Respond without getting personal. Insulting Goldstein with little contradiction of his facts and references only highlights your ignorance and prejudice. :=)) Do you think some Jewish scholar or Muslim mullah will defend the Catholic Church? And should not the Catholic church award an individual who has spent so many years finding the truth of the Inquisition and placing in within the proper historical context like this author has done? In fact he learnt so much about the Catholic Church that he decided to join it. Not a 'rice Christian' neither a victim of 'physical torture'. Now if you did the same, perhaps you may follow his foot steps.:=)) Your first step is to read Goldstein's book. Be man enough to accept your mistakes or else you are becoming today's version of those inquisitors that you so strongly revile. The next time you and others elect to make sweeping comments on the Catholic Church and the inquisition, please read David's Goldstein and other similar books first. You may pick up a few gems and facts that you did not know. You should familiarize yourself with some studied facts and statistics rather than using anecdotal cases. And the next time you read a treatise on Islam or its history do read a book written by a Muslim or an Imam. Nothing wrong with that either and neither do I expect any less from you. :=)) I am so happy you elected to no longer comment on Goldstein's article. As they say: "The shit must have really hit the fan". :=)) Regards.
