The All India Football Federation has recently announced that it was going to revise its policies in terms on imposing more restriction on foreign football players playing in Indian(Goan)football teams and the various leagues. One argument is that it stifles the local talent. The second argument is that a number of the foreign football players are not of good caliber, with a few exceptions. Taking upon the second argument, what is perhaps needed is to impose some sort of "quality control" on the foreign players being recruited and used by the Indian football teams. This quality could be imposed in the form of a requirement that the foreign players used by the Indian teams MUST be of a sufficiently high stature in their home countries, i.e. foreign players who are only part of the first division leagues in their home countries. In terms of stifling the local talent, this is not so much the case, as a good selection and quality of foreign football players in the Indian leagues, only helps to "raise the bar" of the competition of Indian football. Giving the local lads an opportunity to compete and play along with high-calibre foreign players. This only improves their own playing abilities and forces them to stretch their limits to greater heights. Like it is said that in order to improve one's game in Tennis, one has to play and practice with a better player. The local lads would have to further push their limits and try to excel and compete and perform better than the foreign recruits, instead of resigning their fate to the foreign players!
