Marlon Menezes: As another example to Alfred's list, one should make a visit to the Divar temple, oops church. What is interesting here is that some portions of the cemetery area still contains remnants of the Hindu temple that used to stand there. Another revisionist history project for Gilbert?
Cynical Gilbert Responds: On my next trip to Goa, I will visit Divar as per your suggestion. Checking that 'old durig' at the cemetery, I will know for a fact that: this is a wall built more that 500 years ago and that it belonged to a Hindu Temple .... or Buddhist Stupka... or Jain shrine. If I see a 'pornem durig', I will also inquire if Assiss-Irmao built the same so that the ghosts in the cemetery may stay inside or play hide-and-seek. :=)) Oops! Now if that 'old durig' has some temple carvings/paintings authenticated by experts as being fifteenth century Hindu, Jain or Buddhist then I will believe your observation of its origin and Divar have a 'historical site'. If not, all that Divar/you have is Assiss-Irmao's 'last stand'. :=)) ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
