[Goanet]Church over Temple

Gilbert asks whether the churches were built on the EXACT spot where the 
temples stood.  I do not know for a fact, but it would seem obvious that if 
a temple was destroyed to build a church in its place, then the spot where 
the church would be built should be the EXACT spot.  Such things have 
happened not only in Goa, but in other parts of India and the world.

In any case, to ask whether the church was built on the EXACT spot is, I 
think, hair-splitting.  Particularly so, when I said that destruction of 
temples and building churches on them is a part of history.

In any case, I come back to the main point on which I started this thread.  
That there was a mention that the BJP in Goa is asking for the return of 
these destroyed temple sites.

To this, Tariq gives reference to two urls on the subject.  I will go 
through them in a short while, and will comment on them further.  But 
looking at the urls, it looks like one of them refers to the time when the 
Pope visited India at the end of 99, and the other to Oct 2000.  The 
impression that I had was that the BJP is PRESENTLY demanding the return of 
the destroyed temple sites.  And I would appreciate if Tariq can provide 
information on the subject.
