As one cruises down the Mandovi bridge and enter Panaji city,
Servo's LCD panel winks its message "Grow More Trees!" I wonder
at whom this message is aimed?

Is it aimed at us, the ordinary citizens? There is a lot of awareness
among the common people, even when they live in a house with a
tiny plot, for a garden. They take pains to grow a couple of Coconut
trees a Bimli or a Cheeku etc.

The message is for those extra-ordinary citizens who govern us.
These shortsighted leaders who can never find a solution without
sacrificing countless trees and wild life.

For instance, the site of the international airport, thousands of trees
will be felled and so many wild animals displaced to give us a new airport.
Once the airport comes up, the land around it will become a prime property
and humans will occupy it with their cement concrete and plastics.

Perhaps a few trees will take the place of the thousands that were murdered
and the poor animals, the original occupants, will be declared pests and
eradicated with a vengeance. Then we have the audacity to complain when
these wild animals stray into our habitat and attack us.

Does all this make sense? Why did the government spent so much on
renovating the existing airport? Was it for it to become a white elephant?
Do we really need another airport?

We have already overused our resources if we want to leave something
behind for our children the faster we learn to conserve our environment
the better it will be.
