RESEARCH METHODOLOGY WORKSHOP
AT ST. XAVIER’S

Research provides an index of the development in knowledge, and is the hallmark of an educational institution. Recognizing its importance, a four-day workshop from 12th - 15th April, 2004, on Research Methodology was inaugurated at St. Xavier’s College, in association with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Western Region Centre, Mumbai.

“Our Educational Institution need to be research oriented”, stressed Shri Bhaskar Naik, Director of Higher Education, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He congratulated the College for this initiative and reiterated that excellence alone could ensure survival in the face of the present day competition. He exhorted the participants to take advantage of the numerous facilities offered by the Government, the UGC and other organizations that promote research.

Principal Newman Fernandes welcomed the guests and stressed the pertinence of the programme in view of the challenges posed by the impending general agreement of tariffs and services. He hoped that the participants would reap the benefits of the programme and shared his plans for conducting a follow-up in July, 2004, in order to discuss the proposals prepared by the faculty.

Shri M.R. Prabhu, Director of ICSSR (WRC), outlined the history, aims and objectives of the ICSSR. He spoke about the various schemes of the ICSSR and stated that the present programme was an attempt to reach out to social science researchers and promote research in the region.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Mahesh Nair.
