Thanks for your profound advice, my friend, but what democracy are you 
talking about?  One of the 1st world, or the 3rd world, because theres a big 
difference between the two, in case you havent grasped it by now. For 
reference read* the future of freedom* by Fareed Zakaria, especially the 
references to India and Venezuela. I have heard the argument-Run for 
political office, instead of criticising politicians, umpteen times,usually 
from politicians, and yours is the umpteen+ one times.  Thanks once again.  
That doesnt change the scenario in South Goa, where I live, one little bit.  
I will forgive you for calling us *defeatist* and *lazy* as well.
I wish Churchill had passed the 12th std.--maybe I would have ventured to 
exercise my franchise.

The comments I have read on political involment recently on this forum 
(Gilbert Menezes, Valmiki,
Jorge) and previously (Floriano, Fred) regarding either boycotting a 
election or checking off
"None of the above" on the ballot, strike me as defeatist at best, lazy at 
worst.  Why not run for
political office or support someone who shares your values?  A functioning 
democracy requires
every citizen to be involved in the political process and share the 
political burden (not merely
criticize others), otherwise:
1. someone else is deciding what is good for you,
2. they are promoting their own agenda - at your expense, and
3. your values exist for you without being tested at the ballot box.
