Songs & Cants take prime position for Patrick
Dourado's "Tujem Rogot" drama in Kuwait

(G.A.U.M. Feature)

Kuwait, April 16, 2004:

The well publicized and much awaited "Tujem Rogot" a
Konkani drama, written and directed by Patrick Dourado
and presented by Kuwait's Navelim Youth Centre had the
large audience entertained with a suspense story and
meaningful songs. The cast included select Konkani
stage artistes from the writer-director's troupe flown
in from Goa, among others including popular Xavier
Gomes, Comedian Augustine, Osvy Viegas, Antonette de
Calangute, Pegado, Netty Carneiro, and Socorro de
Santacruz. Kuwait-based popular writer-director Jose
Rod, Micheal D'Silva, Master Jonathan Fernandes,
Augusto-Gracy Morias, Sylvester Vaz, Comedian Nelson,
Katty de Navelim and others including Querobina
Carvalho, Sandra, Joseph Rodrigues, Andrew, Anthony
Carr, and Simon Dias performances added to the show's
success. Indeed a good blend of artistes from the
local circuit enhanced the show, predominantly from
the Kuwait Goa Tiatristanchi Sonstha (KGTS). Patrick
Dourado sang on stage for the first time according to
reliable sources at www.goa-world.com

It would be interesing to note that the defence of
Konkani language, so dear to every Goan, is
principally due to the tiatrist faternity and the
die-hard Konkani writers and readers. Enthusiastic
youngsters churn out a large number of Konkani albums
every year. It is, as reported by www.goa-world.com
earlier that in Kuwait, a majority of such Konkani
albums have been released for almost each and every
tiatr/musical show or the Goa Day events year after
year. Today also, a Konkani CD/audio album, a video
film (VCD) and a musical show CD was released during
the show.

There's absolutely no doubt that the Tiatr has risen
to great heights and troupes like Patrick Dourado's
have continued over decades to give the Konkani lovers
the best of the tiatrs and fullsome entertainment.
Goa's Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, recently said
that "the Tiatr has become very popular among the
masses because it exposes varied issues and problems
of our society, be they social, political, religious,
etc. The uniqueness of tiatr is that it deals with
issues through serious and comic situations". Kudos
to the organizers who did not leave any stone unturned
to give the audience a perfect stage set-up, music and
sound system and other arrangements at the Hawalli
auditorium.

For those who were priviledged to be among the
audience of Patrick Dourado's hit dramas like Tin
Fogotteanche Marann, Ghatki Bhoinn, Utor, Tin Thembe,
Suknnem ani Mira, Lok Sangtolo, Ostori, etc. today's
show was just another example of his versatality.

Among the die-hard Konkani lovers and members of
several Goan social, cultural and football
associations including Goan Welfare Society, Kuwait
Goa Tiatristanchi Sonstha (KGTS), United Club of
Utorda, Navelim Youth Centre, Kala Mogui Kuwait, to
name a few, which goes on to show that whoever may be
the organizers, as tiatr lovers, Goans flock in
support of their mother tongue, Konkani.

Alex Wilson Coelho, Goan Welfare Society
(GWS)-Kuwait's PR Officer and Inacio Faleiro were the
special guests on the occasion. During the
intermission, Patrick Dourado was specially honoured
with a Memento at the hands of Alex Wilson Coelho. A
Memento was also presented to the Hawalli Governor as
a special dedication for the support to the
organizers.
Patrick Dourado, in an emotional tone, gracefully
acknoweldged the honour bestowed on him by Navelim
Youth Centre and thanked everyone present.

The musical score for the show was provided by maestro
Soccoro on the lead, Faustino on trumpet, Dennis on
bass, Duarte Ferrao (Stepping Stones) and Shahu on
keyboards and Tony on drums.

In recent years, the organizers, Navelim Youth Centre
have presented in Kuwait five non-stop dramas
including those of Rosario Rodrigues, John D'Silva,
Chrismeena and Patrick Dourado. Quite a few Konkani
stage artistes who have performed for Patrick Dourado
in the last two decades are now based in Kuwait
including Comedian Philip Pereira, Laurente Pereira,
Katty de Navelim, among others.

Jose Rod's inimitable compositions and singing style
confirmed that he is 'the favourite' among Kuwait's
Konkani tiatr lovers.
