The number of advertisements given by the government to daily newspapers from January 1, 2001 to January 31, 2004 are 12,139 with an expenses of Rs 3,87,22,001. Similarly, periodicals were given altogether 1,197 advertisements during the same period, at the cost of Rs 96,43,143.
Presently, the department of information and publicity broadly follows the criteria of the government of India while giving out the advertisement, one is of distribution of advertisements according to the circulation of newspapers and the second is providing encouragement to small time newspapers through them.
Meanwhile, the state government organised photo exhibitions during last three years, with most of the photographs clicked by the photographers of the department of information and publicity. The exercise was done to disseminate information about the state, primarily linked to the tourism sector.
However, in one case the photographs were clicked by an aerial photographer, Mr Gopal Bodhe to capture rare and hidden facets of the state. The aerial photographs of Mr Bodhe were displayed under the theme, 'Goa, birds eye view' at exhibitions held at Mumbai, Pune, Nasik, Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur; the exhibitions costing the government Rs 10 lakh.
The other photo exhibitions include 'Glimpses of Goa', 'Value education changing face', 'Goa frames', 'New commitments: New directions' and 'Gift of millennium: New gala complex, Porvorim', which were held at Kala Academy, craft mela at Haryana, Goa festival at New Delhi, International Centre at Dona Paula, women's awareness campaign at Canacona, Goa legislative assembly, Aprant Maand at Fatorda, Goa tourism meet at Dona Paula, Rural Bazar at Kala Academy and Rajiv Kala Mandir at Ponda.
Meanwhile, a total amount of Rs 12,99,083 was spend by the government on the Gomant Vishwa Sammelan, held at Kala Academy, earlier this year, from January 3 to 5. Around 279 delegates got themselves registered for the event, besides many others who attended select sessions, but did not register. A delegate fee of Rs 200 each was collected from the registered delegated amounting to Rs 55,800.
It is also learnt that 100 blank compact discs with covers were provided for distribution of the budget speech of the Chief Minister for the year 2003-2004, through them. The total expenditure incurred on their purchase is Rs 4,375.
