The KAG on IFFI headed by the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ravi Shankar Prasad is arriving here on Sunday, confirmed Secretary, Information, Mrs Jayashree Raghuraman when contacted by the Herald.
"They are coming to assess the preparedness of Goa to host the IFFI in 2004" said Mrs Raghuraman who initially built up a strong case to make Goa a permanent venue for IFFI. The advisory group will visit the sites allotted for various activities of the festival and decide accordingly after reviewing the infrastructure.
Most of the 15 members comprising the advisory group on IFFI are likely to be present for the crucial meeting here. In fact, top names in the film industry Shabana Azmi, L Suresh, Amit Khanna, Mosinha Shetty, have confirmed their visit.
They will see for themselves whether Goa would be ready by October with the required infrastructure to host the mega event. The Goa Government had scheduled it from November 29 to December 8.
The government is now caught in a jiffy as environmental clearances are yet to be obtained without which no work within 100 metres from the river, can start full steam. ------------------------------- HERALD 6/5/04 page 1 ------------------------------
