Replying to a query, he said that the people had indicated their mind on the IFFI and that was not much in favour for holding the festival here at the cost of basic amenities and infrastructure works suffering in rural areas. (GT) PARTIES DUTY-BOUND ON VOTER ROLLS: CM: The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that it is the duty of political parties to help people get their names included in the electoral rolls and added that his BJP did its job to a large extent. He was responding to queries on deletion of names from the electoral rolls denying citizens to exercise their franchise in the April 26 Lok Sabha polls. (H) BJP WILL GET LEAD IN AT LEAST 30 CONSTITUENCIES: PARRIKAR: The BJP will get a lead in at least 30 constituencies, thus winning both the Lok Sabha seats in Goa, said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday. Expressing his post election views, Parrikar stated that during the recent Lok Sabha election there has been positive voting in favour of BJP even in the Salcete taluka constituencies. In his opinion there was no 'movement of Congress' in the state, and the additional voters were motivated by the BJP. (GT) MONSOON ASSEMBLY SESSION IN JUNE: The monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will start in mid-June to transact the budget for 2004-2005, which was passed during a week-long assembly session held in February earlier this year. (NT) NINE INJURED: Nine passengers were injured, four of them seriously, when a truck collided with a bus along the National Highway at Torsem on Wednesday afternoon. (H) MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT: The Cuncolim police have arrested one Oscar Rebello on Wednesday for assaulting one Mr Anthony Dias of Baida, Chinchinim. The victim has been admitted to hospital as he has suffered head injuries. (NT) MERCES MAN SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES: Aleixo Fernandes, from Merces-Vaddy, died of injuries, which he had sustained following a hit and run incident on April 22. (H) ARPORA RESIDENTS IRKED: For the first time in Arpora village a road has been tarred with hot mix material. The road stretches from Salt Lake ground to Little Baga bridge. However, the public has expressed surprise over tenders being floated for tarring only half the road. (H) PARRIKAR PLANS VILLAGE TOURS: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday announced that from May 19 he would start a series of visits with officials to various parts of the State particularly Salcete to resolve 'localised issues'. He said that during his nearly 250 brief interactions mainly in South Goa in the run-up to the April 26 parliamentary elections, he saw for himself that villages like Nuvem, Curtorim, Loutolim, etc, have many problems. Stating that his tours to the villages gave him an "insight" into their problems, Parrikar said he has decided to go back to the same areas to settle their pending grievances. He claimed that he had interaction with 60,000 people directly during his tours. More than 100 of the "gatherings" were held in Salcete. (H) THEY MAY NOT SPRING BACK TO LIFE!
