Welcome Francisco Sardinha The President and Managing Committee members welcomed Francisco Sardinha at Kuwait International Airport this evening.
The tall and handsome Francisco Sardinha was warmly received by Curtorcares United President Salvador Dias and his fellow Curtorcares and friends. Francisco Sardinha will be the chief guest, along with his wife, Columbia, at the Curtorcares Easter Nite to be held tomorrow, April 29, 2004 at the Faker El Deen Palace, Kuwait City. Francisco Sardinha has to his credit a long and illustrious political career stretching 20 years. Sardinha (58), an upright politician known for his charm and integrity, began his political career in 1977 when he joined the Congress. He quickly rose through the ranks and became a minister in the Pratapsingh Rane government three years later. Under Sardinha's leadership, Curtorim in south Goa witnessed a complete transformation from a small village to a bustling town. Such was Sardinha's popularity in the town that he won two consecutive elections - 1984 and 1989 - without much difficulty. In 1994, however, he lost to United Goan Democratic Party candidate, Antonio Gaonkar, by a thin margin of 94 votes. He was member of the 12th Lok Sabha, but after its dissolution decided to return to state politics. In 1999, he was Goa's Chief Minister, but had to opt for resignation instead of facing a 'vote of no confidence' when the 10-member BJP, a coalition partner in the Sardinha-led government, withdrew its support in 2000, a day after eight Congressmen, comprising two groups, merged into the party. A teacher by profession, Sardinha is a good athlete and loves to sing. He is currently the MLA of the Curtorim constituency, and has three sons. Here's wishing the Sardinha's a pleasant stay and an enjoyable evening at the 'Curtorcares Easter Nite' in Kuwait. The show is sponsored by NGGECO Siemens and co-sponsored by Mahatta Trading Co.
