The text books currently used in Goa are published by the MAHARASHTRA STATE BOARD FOR SECONDARY AND HIGHER SECONDARY EDUCATION [MSBS&HSE] based at Pune. This Board is similar to Goa Board of S & HSEd. based at Porvorim. The economics of printing are against the preparation of text books for Goa. The SIE-Goa [ which deals with text books from Std V to Std.VII] has also specialised in printing books with errors ...and re-printing them to boot! The less said about the quality of their content, the better. NCERT is the acronym of National Council for Educational Research & Training. It is based in Delhi [ sharing a common wall with IIT-Delhi] bang opposite the Aurobindo Ashram. Only those students studying "Higher Maths" still use one text book of NCERT. I know this for sure as I have a son studying in Std.IX in Goa. There is no such thing as Maharashtra NCERT....though Maharashtra is the stronghold of NCP! It was therefore surprising to read the following in a mainstream newspaper .............. To begin with Std X students have an all new syllabus from this year thereby completing the process of a > change over to the* Maharashtra NCERT *which began a year and half ago. (H) ................. Viva Goa. Miguel
