Gilbert Lawrence: Please, I beg your pardon? I hope the readers know that my post is exactly opposite of what Marlon has presented me as suggesting. Nazis did not consider others (as outlined) as being just/only un-Germanic. They considered them as German-traitors and non-Humans and developed techniques to address them. That is exactly what we should avoid, evade and circumvent. Those who DO NOT subscribe to the notion of "one nation under god" have an even greater responsibility to prove their Americanism or face the likely prospect of discrimination, prejudice, bigotry and hate crimes. Then it is they who will have to blame themselves for trying to be non-conformist. Marlon Menezes: Gilbert does make a lot of sense in his arguments below, but he is not the first. The Nazis for example, correctly identified the Gypsies, Jews and homosexuals for being un-Germanic. Furthermore, all true Americans do subscribe to the notion of "one nation under god". Of course, we need to define what god and religion are. To most of us in America, it is the US Dollar and free market capitalism. God ble$$ America! Gilbert Lawrence: I do not want to take-on the great living Goan philosopher. But if the question begs an explanation; here is one and within the Goan context. Every society needs some defining characters. That does not mean that the society has to be completely uniform (like the five fingers of the hand have to be of the same size). .... Those who do not believe in "One Nation under God' are not traitors; but perhaps they are un-American (not non-American). Santosh Helekar: Are Americans who cannot in all honesty and sincerity pledge allegiance to 'one nation under God' traitors?
