The GHAG[ read 'Heta Pandit'] has come out with a statement published in the local papers today. " While we understand the need to change the names of some roads...it is tragic that the means employed to make these changes were violent." This could not be futher from the truth. 1. Only the state, the local governing body and the residents are stake holders in the name of a place or street. The Mapusa Housing Board has been renamed 'Ganeshpuri' by the residents. It has been accepted. Why should people not residing in Fontainhas want to change the name of a narrow lane from "31 January Road" to "19 December Road"?. If someone wants to name a road after the date of Goa's liberation from colonial rule ,let it be a main road[ perhaps even the majestic new Miramar circle to NIO circle road]...not a piddling ,obscure lane. Even 18 June Road and Dayanand Bandodkar Marg are main thoroughfares. Beats me how little Nageshbab reveres the Liberation Day. It may be okay for Heta or the little Velingkar, they were not around in Goa on that day in 1961. 2. The name of the lane is NOT yet changed. If in doubt, ask the residents/shop owners on the lane...or the Postman. > From: Cecil Pinto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote CP Indeed why has no mud been thrown on, or stuck to, Albertina? I can hazard a guess. Because Albertina is beyond any personal or career enhancement motivations and is sincerely committed to a cause. Makes one think, does it not? Why some people can spend a lifetime in social causes and maintain a clean slate, while some others attract accusations. > FN > The "charges" against Heta and GHAG seem to be based either on (i) her style of functioning (ii) insinuations of lack-of-transparency or even careerism and dishonesty .... CP > As citizens it is our right, and even our duty, to question the functioning of departments and organisations where public funding, (taxpayers' money) is involved! One for the road..... To the pseudo patriots, I could play the song from "Euphoria"....Kab tu ayegi meri gullie?....with a new 'takta'. If there is a name to the lane on which I live, no one knows it. Perhaps we could name it [ with police protection and all]after one of the pseudos...Little Velingkar's Folly oops..gully! Viva Goa. Miguel
