Convener of Velim Civic Consumer Forum (VCCF), Ramona Almeida, stated that there should be uniformity in implementing traffic rules all over the state, speaking to GT, Almeida said as far as Velim route was concerned, implementation of the traffic rules was witnessed after the forum put forth, the demands with various authorities.
It may be recalled in August, in a tragic accident at Velim market two persons were crushed to death by a speeding bus and passengers traveling by the bus were also injured, besides a number of vehicles were damaged
After this incident, the VCCF along with local residents, held a rasta Roko to highlight over speeding by public vehicles.
Later, deputy Collector Deepak Desai convened a joint meeting of various authorities, which included the assistant Director of Transport, police, traffic police, local Panchayat officials and others.
There was a demand that the progress of various decisions taken should be monitored every month by authorities along with residents and first joint meeting scheduled to be held in first week of October.
According to Almeida although it is seen that most of the buses have introduced the flap door, while tickets are issued only on demand, However she said it has been witnessed that interceptor vehicle has been conducting periodical checks on the route to check over speeding.
Meanwhile it is learnt that the installing of speed breakers at the Velim market which was entrusted to the Velim Panchayat has been delayed and the same are likely to be put only after 28 September.
