----------------------------------------------------------------------- Timely intervention by CRZ panel stops work at Velsao ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The work, which was underway, involving digging of pits for construction work in the coastal area of Febrica Wado, Velsao, by M/s Madras Rubber Factory (MRF), was stopped with the timely intervention and enquiry led by Dr N P S Varde, member secretary, Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) committee.
According to information from Mormugao mamlatdar's office, the complaint in this regard was filed by Mr Mathany Saldhana, Minister for Tourism and Sports on September 20, to the director of panchayat, chief town planner, member secretary, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority, deputy collector, Mormugao and to the police inspector, Verna police station.
The complaint stated that the CRZ guidelines were being violated by M/s MRF at Febrica Wado. Besides this the Tourism Minister also had filed another complaint against Saldhana Builders, which was also violating the CRZ guidelines in the same area.
The complaint had further stated that "both the parties have dug the pits
with the intent of erecting some structures." The complainant, Mr Saldhana
had asked the concerned authorities to take strict action against the violators.
Acting on the complaint, an inspection was done on September 24 by Dr N P S Varde assisted by members of CRZ committee, Mr Anthony D'Souza, Mormugao mamlatdar, Ms Sheru Shirodkar, block development officer, joint mamlatdar, Mormugao, sarpanch, secretary and talathi of village panchayat, Velsao and circle inspector (2) of Mormugao mamlatdar office.
The pit digging was immediately stopped after the inspection. It is learnt that M/s MRF had obtained permission from the CRZ committee for repair and renovation of house No 182-A and 182-B in survey No 73/1 of Velsao village. On the basis of this permission M/s MRF approached the public works department (PWD) and managed to obtain RCC layout (technical approval) of over Rs 8.50 lakh. M/s MRF then subsequently approached the village panchayat and obtained the licence for repairs and renovation.
According to records available in the Mormugao mamlatdar's office there is no such house located in the mentioned plan. Interestingly, non-existent structure has been found on land survey map of the directorate of settlement and land records. It is also informed that inquiry has been led by various authorities wherein necessary action would be taken against the violators. ---------------------------------------------- The Navhind Times 30/9/04 page 5 ----------------------------------------------
