--- "Frederick Noronha(FN)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: If we had an India which was affluent, respected in other parts of the globe (as it is in Silicon Valley), then we would see a number of Goans thumping their chests about this ancient connection, I guess ;-) ====================================== In my case, I don't think so. An affluent India wouldn't have made me change my mind, in the same way that I am not drawn to the US (that's the last place I'll go to). Nevertheless, let me state upfront that I am proud of my lineage and the ancient connection. But the hurt caused by the illegal armed action (and then remained there like sitting tenants, no questions asked) plus the fact that Goa is being plundered by Delhi (how much goes out and how much comes in?), plus the fact that I was made to feel non-Indian in other parts of India eight years ago (lets say that this was my "awakening" point, similar to what Gandhi felt when he was thrown out of the train in S.Africa, and Nehru felt when was thrown out of a "whites-only" club in India, which I call the "St Paul Effect"), is what has shaped my current mental processes. Did you ever have any confrontations with the military in Goa? I've had - twice: in 1967, and then again in 1973. They were minor incidents, nevertheless they are there in the back of my mind. At the time I thought they were isolated incidents, but I see that they happen to other people too. Let me put it in another way. Until you undergo the "St. Paul Effect", you will never comprehend what I am talking about. Gabriel. Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies. http://au.movies.yahoo.com
