Your LPG Cylinder may be under-weight -------------------------------------------------------------------- In a surprise check carried out by the Legal Metrology Department at Margao, it was found that out of the 137 domestic LPG cylinder transported in two trucks 19 cylinders weighed less than the declared quantity of 14.2 kgs. The short-fall ranged between 200 grams to 1 kg.
D P Kholkar, the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology, South Zone, Margao, along with Arun Panchwadkar, the Inspector Legal Metrology, Margao, conducted a surprise check on two trucks bearing numbers GA-02-V-6626 and GA-02-T-6626, carrying the load of 137 filled domestic LPG cylinders of Hindustan Petroleum Company Ltd (HPCL) for distribution in Salcete taluka. A case has been booked and the cylinders have been seized.
Meanwhile, the Controller Legal Metrology, informs that HPCL and Bharat Petroleum Company Limited, have provided every distributor with 'Salter' weighing instruments, which should be carried by the trucks delivering the LPG Cylinders to the consumers, for the purpose of verifying and assuring the net content of the LPG cylinders.
Therefore, every consumer can demand that the LPG cylinder be weighed at the time of delivery. While checking, the tare weight and net weight mentioned on the body of the cylinder should be totaled inorder to arrive at the gross weight.
After verification, if found that the weight is less than the gross weight, the consumer should immediately file a complaint with the Inspectors of Legal Metrology, of the respective taluka. ----------------------------------------------- Gomantak Times 3/11/2004 page 3 -----------------------------------------------
