Woman ends life by slitting her throat with knife

In a horrific but rare incident, a 28-year-old woman from Naikawado
Calangute committed suicide in the early hours of today by slitting
her throat with knife in the kitchen of her house.

According to information provided by the superintendent of police
(North Goa), Mr Sharad Agrawal, the woman identified as Dipti Naik (28)
was mentally disturbed for the last few days and was being treated by
a doctor for mental disorders.

The North Goa SP also informed that the lady was having differences
with her in-laws and the incident appeared to be a case of suicide as
per the indication from material evidence at the site of incident. He also
questioned the husband of the deceased woman.

Meanwhile, sources said that the woman went to sleep along with her
husband and children (both girls aged 5 years and 6 months) after dinner
yesterday.

The incident came to light around 2 a.m. when the 6-month old daughter
of the deceased woman began crying frantically. The cries of the child
disturbed the sleep of father who found that his wife missing from the
place where she had gone to sleep. The search led him to the kitchen
where he found her in a pool of blood with her throat slit with a knife.

Soon the police were called. The police shifted the body to the Goa
Medical College for post-mortem after inquest. A team of doctors from
forensic department of the GMC was taken to site of incident for a
thorough probe into the incident and rule out foul play.
