Dempo striker Cristiano dies on football pitch

Bangalore, Dec 5 (IANS) Brazilian soccer player Cristiano Dellima Jr. collapsed and died here Sunday on the playground after he slotted a second
goal to take his Dempo Sport Club to a 2-0 rout of Mohun Bagan in the
Federation Cup final.
The 25-year-old star of the Goan club fell in a heap after he was apparently pushed by the Kolkata club's Subroto Paul following the goal.
Efforts by players to revive him through artificial resuscitation failed and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
"Cristiano probably died of a massive cardiac arrest. We have no information that he suffered from any previous heart ailment.
Only a post-mortem will reveal the exact cause of death," K.C. Satyaprakash, a doctor of the hospital, told IANS.
Meanwhile, the city police, which has registered a case, took Cristiano's body to a government hospital for post-mortem.
