Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, makes no
secret of his admiration for the United States.

In this quote he takes on the anti-American Europeans
on the anniversary of the Normandy invasion:

"They must know the price the Americans paid to free
our continent. Half a million killed in World War II.
More than 7000 killed on D-Day alone, in Normandy;
25,000 killed to liberate Italy. Some of them rest in
peace in our country, buried in Anzio. I suggest you
visit that cemetery, and see the names of people
unknown to you: John, Charlie, Robert, Ted, Howard...
Men aged 20, 22, who gave up their life for our
freedom."

In this quote, Berlusconi speaks about what the United
States means to his country:

"We do not see the United States as just a friend, but
as a guarantor of our freedom. We do not see the
Stars and Stripes as just the flag of the United
States, but as a symbol of freedom around the world".

Anyone having a problem with Berlusconi's sentiments
should let him know through the nearest Italian
Embassy, or on www.italia.gov.it.
