I can see this one turning into a Central Govt. Vs State issue. I believe there is no way that the State Govt. can establish laws which contradict the Indian Constitution and the Laws of the Land............we shall see what the Governor has to say about this........
http://www.navhindtimes.com/stories.php?part=news&Story_ID=011822 Disqualification amendment: MGP expresses displeasure NT Staff Reporter Panaji, Jan 16: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), a partner in the BJP-led coalition government has strongly criticised the recently passed Goa Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualification) (Amendment) Bill 2005 and decided to call on the Governor and submit representation expressing its views on the bill. The decision to this effect was taken at the party's newly elected central committee meeting, the highest decision-making body of the MGP, this evening. It was the first party meeting after its organizational elections. The party president, Mr Pandurang Raut said the MGP has decided to direct its lone MLA and PWD Minister, Mr Ramkrishna Dhavlikar to take the party into confidence before taking any decision on vital matters. He said though the MGP supports the BJP-led coalition government, it does not mean that the party MLA has to support every action of the government. Mr Raut said the amendment suggested by the BJP legislator, Mr Damodar Naik to the bill raised doubts about the government intention. Mr Raut said passing of such a bill in the assembly was an attack on the Constitution. Stating that since the bill intends to be made applicable from retrospective period, Mr Raut said the government has passed it with certain motives, which have not been clarified. He suspected that the government got the bill passed to save two of the ruling party MLAs who are now facing disqualification petition before the High Court. Mr Raut said the central committee has decided to strengthen the party on all fronts and in this connection the party will soon announce its youth, women's, district, taluka and booth committees. -- Cheers, Gabe.
