Late evening, the journalists had been informed that the electronic media would, in fact, be allowed to cover the session. (GUJ letter) o BJP's camp, lead by Parrikar, is still on the mission of making 'something extraordinary' happen in the assembly. Rumours have it that the BJP has offered the chief minister's post to Ravi Naik to defect from the Congress. Fearing attempts of poaching, the Congress is keeping its flock (i.e. MLAs) at a hotel in Colva. While the BJP made charges that money was coming to the anti-BJP forces from Taleigao, the Congress has retaliated by alleging that the BJP is flush with funds and that lots have been contributed to the party's national kitty. (H) o MARGAO'S TAPS run dry for a seconde day. (H) MIRAMAR, a flood plain that developed over the years into a well-planned area, is now seeing development bring in civic problems and traffic congestion, writes journalist Vithaldas Hegde. Accidents, low-power voltage are other issues. Compared to other parts of Panjim, the civic problems are less acute. This is perhaps one area of Panjim which still has a lot of open spaces still untouched and being beautified. Areas like St Mary's Colony and La Campala Colony are well maintained. Residents say thought that these areas were getting flooded in the monsoons. Late Maria Pereira donated the area where St Mary's colony is located to the Confraria Reunidas da Igreja de Panjim. However, the church managing committee developed the area through late Benferd Fernandes, father of pop singer Remo Fernandes. This reclaimed land, like a flood plain, was developed into plots and sold to buyers, mostly Africa-returnees. Some felt Rosary School classes, being run in shops having shutters, needed shifting to a better place. A joggers park is being constructed in the Shade Garden. Plans are afoot for a cycling track for boys. Councillor Ruth Furtado admits Miramar is a low-lying area and it is important to construct drains. A joggers park has been proposed in the Lake View Colony. (GT) VOICES: Overall, the Miramar area is well planned and maintained...
