Dear Lino,

The capacity of my motorcycle tank (Yamaha YBX 125 cc) is 11 litres. After so many years of internal rusting the capacity should have expanded to at least 12 litres but after a few accidents the tank has got some 'cheps' and the capacity is now just 9 litres.

The above sounds much better in Konkani!

As far as drinking capacity goes I said I had 2 half-quarters. That is the equivalent of 180 ml or 2 American pegs. In some European countries a peg is deemed as 40 ml. In some 'chor' restaurants on the coastal belt a peg is considered 30 ml and 60 ml is billed as a 'large'. Bloody cheats!

A serious Caju drinker will never order his drinks by the peg but only by the half-quarter. After his third or fourth half-quarter he might condescend to ordering a 3 rupee or 5 rupee shot (depending on the 'tavern' in question) but never a peg.

To clarify.

After 2 half-quarters I become very talkative.
After 3 half quarters I become 'comic' (Konkani for "very funny and boisterous")
After 4 half quarters I become argumentative
After 4 half-quarters and a 5 rupee shot I insist that everyone join me in singing mandos, even the tavern owner and his family.

Now you figure my "capacity"

Cheers!

Cecil

P.S.
I am tone deaf and can't sing a line in correct pitch but am great at starting of mandos and then slinking into the background till there is a pause - when I start off another one, or fuloi the local mando champ into getting vocal by sponsoring him a half-quarter.
