Sad death of Tiatrist Rom Tony.
It was sad to know that Rom Tony one of the yesteryears tiatrists has died on 4th of this month. He was one of the pillars of Konkani stage and along with other two members of his trio that is Rem & Rod he created havoc for the late Dayananda Bandodkar, his MGP and Marathi impositionists on Goa. No doubt while singing his voice was not very powerful but his compositions were really powerful. His trio was one of the responsibles for creating an awakening in Goa in support of Konkani, separate statehood for Goa and clean Government. This trio used to sing on the latest topics which affected the well being of Goa. Along with yet another powerful and most sought after trio by the audience of Con[Nel-Anthony, Rom-Rem-Rod trio created special niche into the hearts of the audience. That this trio was so much liked by the audience one could easily notice from the way audience applauded them during their entry on to the stage. I was once told by a realiable source that Rom Tony who was responsible for composing many of the trios was even tried to bribe by Dayananda Bandodkar's lobby to keep the mouth of these tiatrists shut. But these tiatrists never surrendered for material benefits and financial gains. Their motto was not to grab financial benefits by denying justice to Goa and all that is good for Goa and Goans. They were even dubbed by MGP lobby as anti-Indians as if those opposing MGP rule were against India. This trio was nicely encompassed into the fold of Young Stars of Goa group. In sixties and seventies they created havoc in Goa against those who were betraying the cause of Goa and Goans. Rom Tony had great heart for the cause of Goa. Unlike many of the present day tiatrists who sold their conscience for money and fake power and honour, Rom Tony always remained upright for the cause of Goa, Konkani and everything that is good for Goa. Those days tiatrists did not care for the honours from the Government but they cared for the good of Goa and for this reason they fought from the stage for the cause of Goa and because of this the then Governments of Goa namely of Bandodkar and Shashikala always took cautious turn.
Recently I had an opportunity to listen to one audio cassette in which the well known singers of Goan stage praised Parrikar's BJP Government and its candidate for Parliament so much that it looked while listening to this cassette that these tiatrists are not Goans but are purchased from outside by Parrikar. Tiatrists like Rom Tony will never do like this, yesteryears tiatrists will never sing hosanas in praise of communal party, anti-christian, anti-muslim party like BJP. BJP is the most communal party and Parrikar is having unique distinction of being the most communal Chief Minister of Goa as it was proved by his participation in the demolition of Babri Masjid. And still the tiatrists in the mentioned cassette sing praises of Parrikar means something is wrong with these tiatrists. Unfortunately, one couple singers in that cassette during their recent visit to Kuwait stayed at my place and fortunately for them and unfortunately for me they kept this cassette on my table and went and only after they left I listened to this cassette.
The contribution of tiatrists for the cause of Goa is immense and that of Rom Tony is really great. Such tiatrists are now dwindling from our stage. May Goa produce more of Rom Tonys and may God give eternal peace to his soul. While concluding I end with my condolences to the entire family of Rom Tony.
