I get the gist of your post, Professor! The crab mentality is not confined to any particular region of India. Nor is it limited to any time period. It's a continuous process that keeps the best and brightest in India within the cesspool of jealousy, hatred and backbiting!

A few like Bose and Tagore do manage to get out of the mire, but the majority lead a wretched existence within the gutter. To your list I can readily add two more names: Mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujam and writer R.K. Narayan, who were "discovered" by Westerners.
