I'd like to point out, in the otherwise interesting comment on Konknni and the Roman script, that Roman is not used by Chinese and Japanese users to communicate via email. The Japanese can scarcely be expected to use anything other than 'kanji', nor the Chinese any alternate to Mandarin. Operating systems, browsers and email clients have for years been capable of displaying non-Roman font sets, just as millions of users in Asia (Thai, Bengali, Tamil, Arabic etc) have been using language-specific keyboards.
