Your write up on Freedom Fighters in this forum on 24th of this month was
excellent. It gives lot of historical information. You made one statement
in your write up saying that "sadly I was surprised there were no hindus
from Goa);" . Let it be known to everyone and to everywhere in the Goan
World that for the good cause of Goa only the Christians worked and fought
hard though the benefits of their hard work and hard fought battles were
enjoyed by those who were watching from distance silently. For Konkani cause
people like me and people from my community fought and faced martyrdom but
overwhelming members of the majority community in Goa remained at home and
regretfully the benefits of Konkani are currently enjoyed by them and we are
kept at distance. In the name of Devanagri script Konkani the majority of
Marathivadis and especially the Saraswats are reaping the fruits. For the
protection of Goa thru historic Opinion Poll the entire Christian community
supported the "Two Leaves" symbol and won the battle for Goa while all the
Marathivadis including many Nagri Konknnivadis supported the symbol "Flower"
which got solid defeat and in the end only those who supported the symbol
Flower became greater beneficiaries of the result of Opinion Poll. The
Nagrivadis and Marathivadis in Goa see others toiling from distance but once
the toilers find the gold mine, they come running there putting their tall
claims for the gold and thus they come out winners. For any good cause of
Goa only the minority Christian community give its support fullheartedly
while others are fit only for the big talk. Take another example from
Kuwait. For the Konkani movement in Goa, we Kuwaitkars belonging to
Christian community did so much but to my knowledge I cannot recollect any
non-christian joining us in our fight for the cause of Konkani even though
hundreds of non-Christians are in Kuwait. Another example. During the
invasion of Kuwait, we in Goa organised such a big movement but with the
exception of one or two none of the non-Christians working in Kuwait joined
us but after the liberation of Kuwait shamelessly started pouring in Kuwait.
Many of the Kuwaitis asked me the contribution of non-Christians in our
movement and were saddened to know the reality. Goa is protected by
Christians only and even in future Chrstian only will protect the interest
og Goa and Goans however western oriented they may be, because they have
true love for Goa. Even for the cause of Goa's freedom movement Christians
contrubuted more and more forcefully and more loudly. Francis Luis Gomes a
Christian was the person who raised the voice of liberation for Goa much
before non-Christian could do and that too in foreign country. The
Christians who participated in Goa's freedom movement were true patriots and
genuine freedom fighters who involved in freedom struggle for the cause of
Goa and not to impose Janasangh Raj in Goa. According to "Xemaecheo Kannio"
the true Goans are those who suffered the persecution of Portuguese and
faced the conversion of "Goencho Saib" but never disowned Goa for fear of
losing their faith. For these Goan the love of their soil came first and
everything else was secondary.
