NEW KONAKNI ALBUM RELEASED IN KUWAIT.

As indicated earlier, Rosary Ferns from Colva Salcette the youngest son of Jose Luis Fernandes the educationist and founder of Infant Jesus High School of Colva, released his 12TH Konkani Album “RAAG”. This Album is in the form of Audio Cassette and CD. It was released thru the hands of Raymond D’Sa from Nagoa – Arpora, Bardez, who is one of the long timer Goans in Kuwait working for The National Bank of Kuwait in a managerial capacity since long time now. Mr. Raymond D’Sa was one of the old timers who associated with me in the promotion of Konkani movement in Kuwait by joining Novem Goem Kuwait Somiti to help Novem Goem Pratisthan (GOA) to initiate Konkani Daily in Goa in two scripts, Roman & Nagri.

In a nice function organized at Village – Inn restaurant starting at 8.00 p.m. on Wednesday 29th June 2005, in the midst of galaxy of Konkani lovers, males and females, the Album was released to the thunderous applauding by the gathering. Though the Village- Inn Hall was not big yet it was full to capacity. Amongst the people who attended the function besides the Chief Guest, his wife, daughter and grand daughters, were Mr. & Mrs. Rosario D’Souza, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Rebello, Mr. & Mrs. Denis, Mr. & Mrs. Carmo Santos and children, Mr. & Mrs. Sanatana Afonso SPA and children, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph D’Souza, Mr. & Mrs. Julio Cardoso and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Luis Cardoso & children, Mr. & Mrs. Domnick Araujo, Salvador Dias, Manuel de Santa Cruz, Lawry M., Querobina Carvalho, Agnelo Dias, Benny Vaz, Gaspar Crasto, Albino Fernandes, Michael Soares, Peter Fernandes, Muriel Fernandes, Dianan, Gloyn Fernandes, Jude and others.

The function started with a welcome speech by the new comer to Kuwait Miss Mary Anne from Vagator, Anjuna followed by the speech of the president of Konkani Heritage Kuwait, Fidelis Fernandes who praised his brother Rosary Ferns for doing such a wonderful job as a singer and tiatrist. He also said "Raag" song is a must for the listening of everyone especially those hot tempered who break the chairs and tables at Sour Grounds since "Raag" tells how important it is to be cool minded. Then the ceremony of releasing the Album was done thru the hands of Chief Guest Raymond D’Sa followed by his speech in which he showered abundant praises on Rosary Ferns for being so successful amongst all the expatriates Goan tiatrists in producing so many Konkani Albums is so short period. He also said that he admires Rosary Ferns for giving meaningful messages in all his Albums, songs and tiatros. As a metter of interest Rosary Ferns is the first expatriate Goan tiatirst to release his Konkani Cassette and also the first person in Konkani world to release first Konkani CD which was done in Kuwait at Plaza Hotel some years back. Incidentally Raymond D'Sa was the person thru whose hands that record creating CD was released. Well-known Mangalorean poets and writers Valley Quadros and Lancy Pinto Nayak highlighted the importance of Konkani, one thru a poetry and the other thru his speech, both of them showed their total admiration for the skill of Rosary in producing Konkani Albums so rich and thus making our language rich. They also praised Rosary Ferns for his natural humility. The others who spoke and praised Rosary for this beautiful Album were the president of Kuwait Konknni Kendr Elvino Rodrigues, president of Colva United, Alexandre Fernandes and KKK’s stalwart Luis Cardoso. All who spoke during the function were great lovers and promoters of Konkani. As an entertainment for the attendees, Rosary Ferns and Sanny de Quepem rendered two solos from the Album. As expected by the gathering a traditional Mando and Dulpods were rendered by a group of singers namely Rosary Ferns, Sanny de Quepem, Mary Ann, Avesha and A.Veronica. The function concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Avesha Antonia Fernandes daughter of A. Veronica Fernandes.

The Album consists of 10 songs, the title song “Raag” is rendered by Rosary Ferns. This song is based on one Goan young man from St. Cruz, Goa, Francisco Araujo who was hanged in Kuwait a few months before the invasion of Kuwait. He was hanged because he murdered two persons, one an Egyptian and the other a Turk, one was a bus driver while the other was a conductor of the same bus belonging to Kuwait Public Transport Co. The second song also a solo was sung by Veeam Bond Braganza “Zalam Kazarachem”; third solo by Sanny de Quepem “Kazar”; fourth solo by Marcus Vaz “Festamcho Dis”; Fifth solo by Rosary Ferns “Gorv”. Sixth solo by Bab Agnelo “Ostori”; Seventh song is a duet by Rosary Ferns and Antonette de Calangute “Visvas Dor”; Eight is a Trio by veteran Master Vaz, Jessica & Jose Luis “Portuguez Tempacho”; Ninth one is the solo by Prince Jacob “Konn Tho” and the last one is a Mando by Naphie Rod “Moga Rup Tujem”.

The entire proceedings of the function was compeered by A. Veronica Fernandes who also spoke exhaustively on Francis Araujo about his life, murders he committed, his imprisonment and his life in prison, his death by hanging, his funeral and press coverage in the local press, etc. A. Veronica Fernandes had written a detailed article in Konkani Magazine “Mog” on this subject soon after the hanging of Mr. Araujo.

Musical score for this Album was provided by Josinho and it is produced by Music House Production – Mapusa.

This Album is also simulteanously released in Goa by the producer and it is available for sale in Goa and in Kuwait with the local dealers. As a matter of information like hot cakes, all the Albums - CD's and Cassettes available in the hall during the function sold within few minutes forcing the director to go for send lot.
