Dera Gabriel,

This is not about benefits for 'caste people; these Dalits as they are now called are the casteless people who were stamped upon and oppressed in every way possible, by the upper caste communities, for many centuries, in caste ridden India. Hence this 'affirmative action' is taken to try and correct this social and economic imbalance. Much like the special programs and affirmative action taken in the interests of the Aboriginal peoples of Australia.

I agrre with you that caste should be got rid off! but who will 'bell the cat' huh. It is for the upper castes to declare that they have truly shed casteism and live in a caste less society. Laws have been made, but ultimately it's the hearts of the communities that has to chage for the common good. The rise of the BJP and like groups made it tough in this sense, and actually encouraged 'Casteism, and fascism'. Caste is racism=fasism put into pravtice by the Nazis and now being emulated by the BJP and their like. We must remember that the upper caste people in India, were and remained the true friends of the Nazis and the Hitler Regime.

I think, India as a whole ought to do away with the
idea of Caste-based benefits, and instead concentrate
of earning capacity of families. Whether this is
palatable to the Indian caste-ridden society, is the
big question ...
