TIMES OF INDIA (Mumbai) of Oct 9, had this brief report titled "Plans for Gateway on rocky ground". It says that the Indian Navy "promised" in the 1960s to give part of its reclaimed land adjoining the Gateway of India for a promenade for civilians. According to INTACH convenor, the Navy gave the undertaking in writing to the Prime Minister "and the people of Mumbai" and hold the concerned documents. However, a defence spokesman has cited "security reasons" and categorically rejected the idea of building any promenade on the Gateway of India along the Navy's boundary/perimeter breakwater. How many such skeletons are there in the military closet?
